With more and more people becoming unemployed currently, many are falling back on their skills and starting a business of their own from home. One type of home-based business that has seen a dramatic increase in numbers recently is the beauty therapist job, where trained therapists give treatments to clients in their home rather than in a spa. If you are new to running a beauty business from your spare room, here is some advice to help you on your way.
Spreading The Word. Building a base of clients that you can rely on for steady work is the number one hardest thing to achieve. If you have come from working for an organization you may have the luxury of being able to take a number of your clients with you who previously came in for treatments or spa days. If you are starting out with no client base whatsoever, then a well structured advertising plan and a bit of marketing initiative should get the ball rolling. A great way to do this is go to a shopping centre put up some advertising and offer people a free massage or pedicures for example. Make sure you hand them some promotional material or a contact number so that they can get hold of you when need their next treatment.
Offer Incentives. There are no better people to find you more customers than those you already serve and who keep coming back because they like you, so make sure you offer some decent incentives for them to do so. Give them a free treatment for everyone they refer or maybe some samples of skin care products.
Sell Skin Care Products. A great way to supplement your income is to sell skin care products to your clients. The products your clients will be most interested in are the ones that you actually use in your treatments, so make sure you offer these before all else. You only need to place a small mark-up on the products if you buy in large enough volumes, and it can turn into quite a money earner.
